Ideal ocean depths are to be found in Los Frailes, Coche and Cubagua and particularly around the coral reefs and the National Parks of Mochima and Morrocoy for the practice of these sports.

These waters are not only home to a huge diversity of marine plant and animal life, but also several shipwrecks dating back to the Colonial period. A great number of agencies hire out diving equipment and offer excursions and courses.

Venezuela, with its great diversity of marine and fresh water habitats, is an angler's paradise. The waters of the Caribbean are teeming with red snapper, marlin, sailfish, yellow fin tuna and lobster. Fishing equipment can be hired and many tour operators offer fishing. Permits may be required for fishing in certain areas.

Tourists can enjoy a wide variety of water sports in Margarita. Kayaking, jet skiing, paragliding and banana boats are common on beach resorts. Water skiing is also on offer, and Margarita’s waters are a prime venue for this.

Tourists enthusiasts of this sport meet here all year around in Playa Parguito, next to Playa El Agua, where strong waves of medium size roll in.

With two National Parks: Cerro El Copey and Laguna de la Restinga, and three Natural Monuments (small parks): Cerro Matasiete and Guayamurí, La Laguna de las Marites, and Las Tetas de María Guevara (María Guevara’s breasts!). Margarita has no shortage of beautiful and varied hiking territory. All are home to an incredible diversity of flora and fauna. Most national parks have well-marked trails encompassing sites of interest and viewpoints. Some have camping facilities.

Windsurfing is very popular, especially around the Peninsula de Araya, the Peninsula de Paraguana and El Yaque Beach, is well known internationally for its steady winds and tranquil waters.
